Pure Golf 2010
In September we were lucky enough to have two New Zealanders, Jamie & Michael play the Island who were playing 365 courses in 365 days. Below is an extract from their blog
“Golf on our second to last day was at The Island Golf Course. The Island flies a little under the radar and was not on our initial itinerary. This was a mistake. The Island course is one of the top ranked links in Ireland is only 15 minutes from Dublin and in a word, is pure. Old fashioned and real golf this links course sits amongst the dunes across the estuary from Malahide and just north of Portmarnock. In the old days the golfers would jump in their wee boats across from Malahide to play on an out and back layout starting from what is now the 14th hole. The par three 13th is a stunning hole played out to the end of the spit with the township of Malahide as the backdrop.”

“Only a little further up the road is The Island Golf Club, one of Ireland's unsung golf heroes, a classic, historic links that deserves to be on every visitors must play list”.

"Good Points - Most enjoyable day of golf I have ever had (I have 70 rounds recorded in 2008). I had never played a true links course, just the American versions...nothing compares.
Bad Points - Only bad point is that I live in Bermuda and cannot play the course again and again and again.
General Comments - I would suggest that anyone who gets a chance to play the course play it. Wonderful shape, the groundskeeper must truly love his work and appreciate what players want in a course.
In all honesty it was the best day of golf I ever had."

"This is one of the most enjoyable courses I have every played and certainly the best links I’ve visited. All holes are memorable; there is virtually no two holes the same. The high dunes give a unique appearance to the course. Holes 13-18 are particularly challenging.
After the golf, I recommend tasting the Guinness at this homely Club, which i look forward to returning to."
